Revive Palm Tree!

Emotionl story:

UAE is famous for its diversity in kinds of palm tree. It’s pure sand, hot weather and dry winds create the perfect environment to grow palm trees. According to a statistic by the Ministry of Environment and Water, UAE have more than 80 kinds of dates, which are produced during all the seasons of the year. Palm trees had played a very important role in the past, were people used them in building their houses, feeding some of its’ parts to their animals, making decorated baskets, planting them near their small plants so they will be protected from wind and eating the produced dates. However, people nowadays, and because of the huge development in all the aspects of life, shifted from getting benefit from all the parts of palm trees, to just picking the palm and throwing out or burning the dead parts of the palm. Consequently, they are not getting the full benefits that palm trees offer them, and they are producing waste with something that could be beneficial to human, society and environment.

*Research:

-Why I choose palm trees?
1- They represent the Emirati culture.
2- They combat against the hard weather, lake of water and strong winds, which indicate the symbol of pride and challenge.

*Facts:
1-UAE is ranked as the 7th country in producing dates.
2-There are more than 40 million palm trees in the UAE.
3-30% of UAE’s land is covered by palm trees.
4-Palm tree is considered as a very strong protection against winds and storms.

*Problem:

People don’t use the whole parts of the palm tree, they only take the dates and throw out the dead parts or burn them.

-Results of the problems:
1-More waste is produced in the UAE.
2-The common way that is used to get rid of dead parts of palm trees is to make a large and deep whole, burn the dead parts then burry the ruins. That way lead to many bad results, such as polluting the air with carbon dioxide and polluting the soil with burned pickings.
3-Sometimes people tend to cut out the dead part of the palm tree and leave it near the palm, which cause diseases and lead to insects’ attack to the mother palm and the surrounded palm trees.

*Solution:

Revive palm tree  (Use all parts in every possible way!)  ==} led by the campaign.

Events:
1-Make colored and decorative bags and accessories that are from palm branches.
2-Make workshops that teaches people how to make and design bags and accessories that are made from palm trees.
3-Make paintings with palm branches, and hang them in streets, to encourage people to participate in the campaign.
4-Competitions in painting palm trees.
5-Competitions in planting palm trees.
6-Decorate dead palm branches and use them in interior decorations.
7-Make souvenirs from palm trees, and sell them.
